FAQs

What if I eat a meal inside the next day box in the middle of the night during the program?
Technically, since you ate it on the respective day for that item, it is within the study's limitations as we did define the timing of the meals as a factor to realize program benefits. Although we don't have any studies to show that eating a meal item in the middle of the night decreases the effectiveness of the program, it could mean you are hungrier during the day when you don’t have anything left to eat in that day’s box. Thus, it’s best to try to stick to eating only... Read more...
The Transition Day Meal Plan recommends a trail mix of almonds, pecans, cashews, blueberries and dark chocolate. Can you advise the ratios of nuts to blueberries to chocolate?
There is no specific ratio of nuts, blueberries, and chocolate, but a general guideline might include mostly nuts with a small quantity of blueberries and dark chocolate (we cannot offer specifics, but a 70/30 split of 70% nuts, 30% blueberries and chocolate, is reasonable). Read more...
Why did my percent body fat go up after using ProLon?
We have found that the bioelectrical impedance scale/test, which is the most common body composition measuring tool, is not always adequately reliable to measure the effects of ProLon, especially during Days 5 and 6. This is most likely due to either loss of glycogen in the body or dehydration and “fluid shift” which can be mistaken for muscle loss using the bioimpedance testing method. We used more accurate tests in our clinical studies for lean body mass measurements and demonstrated the maintenance of lean body mass and decrease in body... Read more...
Do you have any recommendations for bars or cereals?
We offer the Fast Bar, which has been designed to provide your body with a carefully balanced ratio of macro- and micro-nutrients to help promote satiety. In a randomized, controlled study of 108 adults who completed a 15-hour overnight fast, we compared glucose and ketone results every hour for 4 hours in a Fast Bar group, breakfast group and water-fast group, and found that the Fast Bar did not break the fast, thus allowing extension of the intermittent fasting window. What happens if I only do one cycle of ProLon in total?
ProLon users report dramatic shifts in their relationship to food after even just 1 cycle, as well as immediate weight loss and decrease in waist circumference. So even just one cycle of ProLon is worthwhile, and gives you a chance to go through the life-changing experience of fasting with food. However, if you want to derive the maximal benefit from ProLon, repeated cycles are recommended. The clinical studies we have completed to date show that multiple consecutive cycles support metabolic health, longevity, healthy aging, and more. In the trials, weight... Read more...
Can I do ProLon® more often than once per month?
ProLon® is only intended to be done one time per month. We have not tested the safety or efficacy of more frequent use, nor have we tested combining ProLon with other prolonged fasts. The body needs a balance between the time spent in the fed state and the time spent in the fasting state. Fasting for too long, or fasting too frequently can lead to malnutrition, loss of lean body mass, decreased energy, and other side effects. Read more...
How many cycles of ProLon can be recommended to an individual in a one-year period?
As with any diet, you should talk to your healthcare provider, who may recommend doing monthly cycles until you reach your individual goals, and then every 3-6 months thereafter to maintain long-term benefits. Read more...
Can the diet be stopped at Day 4?
The 5-day cycle has been carefully designed based on preclinical and clinical data, and therefore we recommend consuming all five days as directed to the extent possible. Read more...
What if food outside of the ProLon kit was eaten during one day of the diet, such as at a social event?
The ProLon kit was carefully designed to be the sole source of food intake during the 5-day fast, and the clinical studies proving its benefits were completed without the addition of any extra food. We strongly encourage you to stick to eating just what is in the box for each day, and we recommend you do not consume anything additional, as eating additional food will impact the effectiveness of ProLon. However, if you do end up eating something extra, don't quit! Just go back to the program, and call the... Read more...
Does growth hormone spike after the 5 days of ProLon?
Some studies have demonstrated a significant increase in growth hormone during a prolonged water fast (typically in days 3 to 5), but the clinical studies on ProLon did not report growth hormone levels, so we can’t definitively say if the same impact occurs with ProLon. ProLon suppresses IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor 1), but the impact appears to be transient, and IGF-1 levels slowly return to their starting levels following ProLon use.   Read more...
Will ProLon impact my sleep?
Most of the data regarding the effect of fasting on sleep is anecdotal. However, in a survey of ProLon users, among healthy volunteers surveyed and reporting a difference in quality of sleep after using ProLon for the first time, the majority reported their sleep quality improved by the end of their fast. Can I do a ProLon cycle while I’m menstruating?
None of our trials so far have studied the impact of ProLon on menstrual cycles, nor have we studied the optimal time to fast regarding female hormone levels. You can do a ProLon fast at any time during your menstrual cycle. However, based on studies that others have done on the impact of water fasting on female hormones, it may be optimal to take ProLon mid-cycle, during the luteal phase. Read more...
